Walkthrough: Creating and modifying a contest

Contests creation are based on the prize that the store would like to grant to the winner.

A Contest is a Shopify product managed by BlingRush under the hood and added with relevant functionality that turn it into a contest. Creating a contest does not change in any way the product that was selected as the contest’s prize.

When a contest is created, We add it to the ‘Our Contests’ collection. The store can add a navigation link to the collection to present all the contests to the customer on a single page.

Creating a new contest

To create a contest, the store must first register to one of BlingRush’s subscription plans.

There are two alternatives to creating a new contest: from the Shopify admin’s product page and from within the BlingRush app.

Alternative one: Using the Shopify Admin

  1. Log in to the Shopify Admin portal
  2. Click on the ‘Products’ section in the menu panel
  3. Locate the product you would like to provide as the prize and click on that product to edit it
  4. In the product edit form, open the More Actions menu located at the top bar and select ‘Manage contest for this product’

Alternative two: Using the BlingRush app

  1. Open BlingRush app from the ‘Apps’ section in the Shopify Admin portal
  2. Navigate to ‘Contests’
  3. Click on the ‘New/Edit Contest’ button at the top of the page
  4. Select for the list the product that you would like to provide as the prize

In the contest creation form, fill in or update the following fields:

  1. The Name field – we automatically append text to the name of the product so that the customer will identify this product as a contest
  2. The Description field – By default, we are populating the field with information on the contest and its rules. You can change the default text in the product customization form in the BlingRush app. The store needs to provide details on the prize and the participation gift (which we will learn how to set later in this article).
  3. The Contest Profit field – This field will determine how much the store will earn from the contest. The amount specified in this field is the profit after the BlingRush commission deduction, so the store will not have a hard time calculating the profit. We automatically fill the field with an amount that will cover the cost of the prize.
  4. The Number Of Participants field – This field will determine the number of tickets available in the contest. To finalize a contest, the store must sell all of its tickets. By default, we calculate the optimal number of participants for the contests based on our machine learning algorithms.
  5. The Participation Ticket Price field – a read-only field that is calculated based on the contest profile the number of tickets and BlingRush’s commission. The store can change the ticket’s price until the first participant registers. After there are registered participants, the store can only reduce the number of tickets left at the expense of reducing its profit from the contest.
  6. The Participation Gift section – select the gift you would like to provide to the participants.
    1. The store can select the check box ‘I don’t want to provide a participation discount gift to my customers’. However, we highly recommend providing a gift since it is an excellent motivator for participants to register and continue registering for contests. Also, it is the perfect conversion tool to increase your overall sales at your store.
    1. The Discount Code field – This will be the code that the participants will use at checkout when purchasing eligible items from the store.
    1. The Discount Code Applies To field – Select the products from the store eligible for the discount. You can select all the products, specific products, or specific collections
    1. The Discount Amount field  – Select if the discount is a fixed amount or a percentage and set the amount
    1. The Set Minimum Purchase Amount field – When the field is populated, the discount code will only be valid for carts with a total amount above the specified limit

Click on the Save button when done. The contest will automatically be published and visible on the storefront.
